At the Vibrant Gujarat 2017 Summit on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told a gathering of business leaders that India is the 6th largest manufacturing nation in the world. Like his usual goof ups, PM has once again made a mockery of himself on social media platform by saying so.
The data at the world bank shows that India was at 5th position in terms of manufacturing in 2014 itself. Link here. The average for 2014 was 56.42 billion U.S. dollars. The highest value was in the USA: 2068.08 billion U.S. dollars and the lowest value was in Palau: 0 billion U.S. dollars. India stood at 5th position at 355,945 million dollars in 2014. India was at 11th in 1998 and when MMS took over in 2004, the rank was 13th and then India reached 6th rank in 2012 and then at 5th Rank in 2014.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has claimed that India had become the sixth largest manufacturing centre in the world – a testament of the decisions taken by his government in making India a robust economy. Union finance minster Arun Jaitley, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu, the Gujarat governor Om Prakash Kohli and Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani were also present on the dais along with heads of state and delegates from the partner countries.
If India has indeed fallen from 5th position to 6th position in manufacturing segment, this certainly is not a thing to boast and feel proud of. if someone has to be given credit, its former prime minister Manmohan Singh
